Where Do Michigan Politicians Stand on Single Payer Healthcare?
We have two goals: 1) To get Michigan's politicians to understand and support Single Payer Healthcare and 2) To elect new representatives that are willing to fight for single payer healthcare for all Michiganders.
The following is a running tally of Michigan political figures and their public statements on Single Payer Healthcare. If you don't see someone on the list who should be, please email us.
Debbie Dingell (US House District 11): a leading co-sponsor of HR1976, The Improved Medicare for All Act of 2021
Abdul El Sayed (Gubenatorial Candidate): Has released a Single Payer Healthcare Plan: Michicare. For More details, check it out here.
Brenda Lawrence (US House District 14): Supports HR 676, the Single Payer Bill in the US House.
Gary Peters (MI Senator): Is for Medicare buy in for those over 55, but not (yet!) for single payer for ALL Michiganders.
Debbie Stabenow (MI Senator): Is for Medicare buy in for those over 55, but not (yet!) for single payer for ALL Michiganders.
Gretchen Whitmer (Gubenatorial Candidate): Is interested in protecting the ACA and Medicaid expansion, but has NOT offered her support for single payer. See her positions here.
What do you expect? NO Michigan Republicans have come out in support of Single Payer Healthcare (or even the ACA).
